We are looking for a Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Southwest & Wales team, based out of our offices in Bristol, Cardiff or Exeter, with a particular focus on ground characterisation and geotechnical assessment/design.
The role will support a diverse portfolio of projects across Southwest England and Wales, working closely with our established multidisciplinary teams in Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of developments, infrastructure and regeneration projects, helping clients understand and manage ground-related risks from project inception through to delivery.
You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with structural and civil engineers, environmental specialists and other technical experts across a wide variety of sectors.
About The Role:
As a Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for the delivery of ground investigation scopes, developing ground models, geotechnical modelling and design works, interpretation, reporting and technical advice.
Your work will include;
Planning and managing geotechnical ground investigations and surveys.
Developing ground investigation scopes, specifications and schedules.
Reviewing and interpreting geological mapping, ground investigation data, borehole logs, trial pits and laboratory testing
Review or peer review of Geotechnical Reports.
Developing robust ground models and geological interpretations.
Geotechnical analysis, with experience in ground modelling and various analysis software.
Undertaking geotechnical assessments and providing practical engineering recommendations.
Preparing high-quality technical reports and specifications, including Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs), for a wide variety of geotechnical design solutions.
Working with multidisciplinary project teams to identify and manage ground-related risks.
Liaising with clients, contractors, drilling contractors and other external stakeholders.
Supporting the development of junior and early-career geotechnical professionals.
Depending on experience, taking responsibility for technical delivery, project management and client relationships.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with a strong interest and background in geology, ground investigation and geotechnical design.
A degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
Significant professional experience within geotechnical engineering, engineering geology or geological investigation.
Strong experience in planning, supervising and interpreting geological/geotechnical ground investigations.
Experience interpreting geological and ground investigation data and developing ground models.
Knowledge of geotechnical principles, ground conditions and the engineering behaviour of soils and rocks.
Proficient skills in using industry-standard software tools such as Oasys Pile, ALP PDisp, Rocscience Slide, GEO5 Retaining Wall, AutoCAD and Excel. Experience with, or interest in, Plaxis 3D or other Finite Element (FE) software is a plus.
Experience producing technical reports, including Geotechnical Design Reports, Geotechnical Feedback Reports and Technical Notes.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Chartered status, or a clear commitment towards professional chartership, would be advantageous.
