We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Water team in Bristol, Cardiff or Exeter. This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career, leading the technical delivery of mechanical engineering solutions while working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams on nationally significant projects. You'll have the opportunity to expand your technical expertise, mentor developing engineers and play a key role in delivering sustainable engineering solutions across the South West and Wales.

  • Lead the delivery of mechanical engineering solutions across major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Take ownership of design packages from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers while contributing to technical excellence across the team.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering mechanical design services across a wide range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Working closely with Project Managers, technical specialists and multidisciplinary teams, you'll help develop practical, efficient and sustainable engineering solutions that deliver successful project outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering mechanical design activities from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Producing and reviewing mechanical calculations, technical specifications, schedules, reports and engineering documentation.
  • Leading the design of pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment works, pipelines and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Undertaking site visits, surveys and technical investigations where required.
  • Collaborating with electrical, process, civil and structural engineers to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Working with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders while providing technical guidance and mentoring to developing engineers.

You'll also help develop the next generation of engineers by sharing your technical knowledge and supporting a collaborative culture of continuous improvement, helping strengthen Stantec's Mechanical Engineering capability for the future.

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of technical delivery while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Essential

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards Chartership.
  • Experience delivering mechanical engineering design within the water sector or another regulated infrastructure industry.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering standards and industry best practice.
  • Experience delivering technical design packages across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience within the water, utilities, energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of pumping systems, treatment processes or mechanical plant design.
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical specifications, reports and engineering documentation.
  • Experience working alongside delivery contractors or supporting construction activities.
