The Opportunity

The UK water industry is entering a period of major investment and change, creating exciting opportunities to develop the infrastructure needed for a more sustainable and resilient future. At Stantec, we're at the forefront of this transformation, partnering with water companies to deliver innovative engineering solutions across some of the UK's most challenging water and wastewater programmes.

We're looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our expanding Water team, based in Warrington or Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to take a senior technical role within our EICA discipline, leading the delivery of complex projects while helping shape engineering standards and develop the capability of our growing team.

You'll be part of a talented, multidisciplinary group where you can:

  • Take ownership of electrical engineering delivery across a varied portfolio of water and wastewater projects.

  • Provide technical leadership, ensuring designs are robust, efficient and fit for purpose.

  • Work collaboratively with clients and colleagues across multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Support the development of others through mentoring, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you'll lead the development and delivery of electrical engineering solutions across a range of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. From initial assessments and concept design through to detailed engineering and construction support, you'll provide technical direction and ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.

You'll take responsibility for the preparation, review and approval of electrical design outputs, providing assurance on technical quality, safety and compliance. Working alongside Project Managers, other discipline leads and external stakeholders, you'll help integrate engineering solutions, manage technical interfaces and overcome complex design challenges.

Alongside your project responsibilities, you'll play a key role in developing the wider Electrical Engineering team. This will include mentoring engineers, sharing specialist knowledge, promoting consistent technical standards and contributing to the ongoing development of our EICA capability.

YOUR IMPACT

You'll play an important part in delivering the infrastructure that communities rely on every day, helping to improve water services, protect natural environments and create more resilient networks and treatment facilities.

By bringing your technical knowledge and leadership to our projects, you'll help drive better engineering outcomes, influence key decisions and ensure solutions are both sustainable and operationally effective. Your contribution will extend beyond individual projects, supporting the development of our people, strengthening our technical capability and helping Stantec respond to the significant opportunities emerging across the UK water sector.

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for a technically strong Electrical Engineer with substantial infrastructure experience, who is confident leading engineering delivery, influencing stakeholders and supporting the development of others.

Essential:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or actively working towards professional registration.

  • Demonstrable experience delivering electrical or EICA engineering within complex infrastructure projects.

  • Experience taking technical ownership and leading engineering delivery within multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, specifications, standards and engineering documentation.

  • Experience developing and reviewing technical deliverables, including Single Line Diagrams, Control Philosophies and technical reports.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions.

  • Experience providing technical support, mentoring and guidance to less experienced engineers.

Desirable:

  • Experience within the UK water and wastewater industry.

  • Experience in other regulated infrastructure sectors, including utilities or energy.

  • Involvement in technical design reviews, engineering workshops, HAZOP or similar safety processes.

  • Experience contributing to framework delivery, tender submissions and the development of client relationships.
