The Opportunity

The Opportunity

Working under the direction of the applicable HSSE Leader, you will support the implementation, application and continual improvement of Stantec’s HSSE programmes, systems, standards and initiatives.

You’ll apply your advanced practical HSSE knowledge across a variety of operational, office, project and field-based environments. Your role will involve supporting risk management, assurance activities, incident management, compliance and the practical implementation of our HSSE management systems.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll exercise independent judgement, analyse operational issues and work collaboratively with colleagues to identify opportunities for risk reduction and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing

Supporting Our HSSE Programme

You’ll play an important role in embedding and maintaining effective HSSE practices across the business. This will include:

  • Supporting the implementation and continual improvement of global, regional and business unit HSSE programmes and initiatives.
  • Supporting the consistent application of approved HSSE systems, standards, procedures and processes.
  • Delivering HSSE communications, awareness initiatives and operational engagement activities.
  • Supporting the maintenance of HSSE documentation, records, reporting requirements and action-tracking systems.
  • Helping to ensure operational consistency and the effective application of HSSE requirements across the business.

Risk Management & Assurance

You’ll work closely with operational and project teams to identify and manage risks effectively, including:

  • Supporting hazard identification, risk assessments and the implementation of appropriate risk controls.
  • Leading or participating in inspections, audits, field assessments, observations and other assurance activities.
  • Supporting the implementation and close-out of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Providing practical guidance on approved HSSE requirements and risk management processes.
  • Supporting subcontractor and supplier HSSE activities where required.
  • Analysing operational risks, recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.

Incident Management

You’ll support the effective management and learning from incidents by:

  • Supporting incident notification, reporting, documentation and follow-up activities.
  • Leading or supporting incident investigations in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Identifying contributing factors, corrective actions and improvement opportunities.
  • Communicating lessons learned and monitoring the close-out of agreed actions.
  • Supporting the analysis of incident trends and operational learning opportunities.

Operational Support & Engagement

As a trusted HSSE advisor, you’ll provide practical, hands-on support to colleagues across a range of environments. You’ll:

  • Provide HSSE guidance to operational teams, project personnel and office-based staff.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the delivery of toolbox talks, HSSE meetings, awareness sessions and engagement activities.
  • Support and mentor junior personnel where appropriate.
  • Take on additional responsibilities consistent with the scope and seniority of the role.

About You

You’ll be an experienced HSSE professional with strong practical knowledge and the ability to apply health, safety and environmental principles across operational and project environments.

You’ll be comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver practical, risk-based solutions.

You’ll Ideally Have:

  • A degree, diploma, certificate or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of seven years’ relevant HSSE experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable HSSE legislation, risk management and incident management processes.
  • Experience leading or supporting audits, inspections, investigations and assurance activities.
  • Experience supporting operational or project-based environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard business systems.
