THE OPPORTUNITY
Help solve some of Ireland's most important drinking water challenges.
At Stantec, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and specialists to develop the treatment processes and infrastructure that provide safe, reliable drinking water to communities across Ireland. From upgrading existing water treatment plants to improving water quality, resilience and operational performance, you'll help shape the future of drinking water services.
We're looking to grow our team with talented, curious and ambitious people who want to make a difference. Whether you're developing your technical expertise, building leadership skills or working alongside some of the most respected drinking water specialists in the industry, you'll be supported to grow both professionally and personally.
As pressures on water quality, climate resilience and supply security continue to increase, the need for sustainable and innovative treatment solutions has never been greater. By joining our team, you'll help protect public health, safeguard the environment and strengthen drinking water supplies for future generations.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Water Quality Engineer within our Water team, you'll help clients solve some of Ireland's most complex drinking water challenges while contributing to projects that improve water quality, strengthen resilience and safeguard drinking water supplies for communities across the country.
You'll have the opportunity to:
-
- Undertake and review process calculations, treatment performance assessments and optimisation studies.
- Support the selection and specification of drinking water treatment technologies.
- Develop practical and sustainable treatment solutions tailored to individual water sources.
- Work closely with clients, contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Contribute to projects from feasibility and concept development through to detailed design, construction and commissioning.
From conventional processes such as coagulation, flocculation, clarification, filtration and disinfection through to supplementary solutions such as activated carbon for organics removal, you'll help develop treatment strategies tailored to the unique characteristics of each water source.
One day you might be investigating colour and natural organic matter in an upland surface water source, the next optimising conditioning requirements for a groundwater supply. Understanding how raw water characteristics influence treatment performance, and applying water chemistry, process engineering and operational thinking to solve those challenges, is what makes this role both technically rewarding and genuinely engaging.
You'll join a well-established and supportive team that will help you settle in, develop your expertise and build confidence. As your experience grows, you'll be given the autonomy and responsibility to take ownership of your work, while always having access to support and guidance when needed.
Client engagement is a fundamental part of the role. You'll work closely with clients to understand their challenges and objectives, helping develop solutions that deliver meaningful outcomes and build the trusted relationships that underpin our success.
YOUR IMPACT
The work you do will help protect the future of drinking water in Ireland.
Across the country, raw water sources are facing increasing challenges from climate change, changing water quality and growing demands on supply resilience. Your work will help address these challenges through sustainable treatment solutions that protect public health, support environmental stewardship and strengthen water security.
At Stantec, one of our core values is We Do What Is Right. That means developing solutions that are not only technically excellent, but also environmentally responsible and focused on long-term outcomes for the communities we serve.
This is more than project delivery. It's an opportunity to help safeguard one of Ireland's most valuable natural resources, protect our proud heritage of high-quality drinking water and make a lasting contribution to communities across Ireland.
ABOUT YOU
You're a motivated engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges and wants to make a meaningful contribution to Ireland's drinking water future.
Beyond technical capability, we're looking for someone who is collaborative, curious and passionate about what they do. You enjoy working with others, bringing energy to projects and helping clients, communities and colleagues achieve the best possible outcomes.
You understand that successful solutions are developed by listening to different perspectives and balancing competing priorities. Whether working with ecologists, environmental scientists, operators, planners, regulators or fellow engineers, you'll appreciate that technical excellence is only part of the answer.
You're also a strong communicator, able to explain complex technical concepts clearly and adapt your approach for different audiences, from technical specialists through to clients and non-technical stakeholders.
Key attributes and experience include:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
- Experience in drinking water treatment, water infrastructure or related water sector projects.
- Knowledge of drinking water treatment technologies, water quality objectives and industry best practice.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and engaging with a range of stakeholders.
- A passion for sustainable water solutions and protecting Ireland's water resources.
