Environmental data sits at the foundation of good decision-making. When it is well managed, accurate and accessible, technical teams can work with confidence. When it is not, even the strongest expertise cannot compensate. At Stantec, we take environmental data management seriously, and we are looking for someone who does too.
We are seeking an Environmental Data Scientist to join a team working across contaminated land, hydrogeology, ground engineering and environmental monitoring. If you are technically curious, detail-oriented and motivated by the idea of building data systems and workflows that make complex projects run better, this is a role worth exploring.
About The Role
You will work alongside technical teams to coordinate laboratory testing schedules, manage electronic data deliverables, support accurate data import into EQuIS, work with AGS data, undertake QA and QC checks, and export data in the formats needed for assessment, reporting, modelling and visualisation.
Beyond the day-to-day data management, you will play an active role in improving how environmental data is handled across the business. You will support users of environmental data systems, deliver training to team members, identify opportunities to streamline processes and help develop consistent, reliable and efficient data workflows that serve projects well from start to finish.
This is a role with real breadth. No two projects present exactly the same data challenges, and the variety of work across ground investigation and environmental monitoring programmes means there is always something new to learn and improve.
Your Impact
The work you do here will quietly underpin some of the most technically demanding environmental projects in the business. When data flows correctly, when QA processes are robust and when teams can access what they need in the right format at the right time, projects move faster, and conclusions are more confident. That is the value you bring, and it is felt across every project you touch.
You will also shape how data management capability grows within the team, through the training you deliver, the workflows you standardise and the improvements you champion. That kind of influence compounds over time.
About You
You hold a degree in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Data Science, Geography, Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences or a related discipline. You bring a strong interest in environmental data management, data quality and the digital systems and workflows that underpin ground investigation and monitoring projects.
Your experience spans some or all of the following: EQuIS or similar environmental data management systems; laboratory electronic data deliverables and AGS data; SQL, VBA or Visual Studio for data checking, workflow automation or reporting tools; ArcGIS or other GIS tools for visualising environmental and monitoring data; and the development of dashboards, automated checks, scripts or standardised workflows. Experience with Leapfrog or other geological modelling tools would be a bonus, though not essential.
A background in, or understanding of, contaminated land, hydrogeology, ground investigation, or groundwater quality assessment would complement your data skills well. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues, manage multiple workstreams without losing sight of the detail, and bring a careful, organised approach that environmental data demands.
