The Opportunity

As our Buildings business continues to grow, we’re looking for a Civil Engineer to join our expanding team based in Birmingham.

Are you a Civil Engineer looking to work on some of the UK’s most exciting and complex building projects? Do you want to be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that is shaping sustainable communities and redefining what’s possible in the built environment?

This is an opportunity to develop your career on high-profile projects while being supported by a collaborative culture that encourages innovation, technical excellence and continuous professional development.

At Stantec, we’re recognised for delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that create lasting value for our clients and the communities they serve. Our Buildings team partners with leading public and private sector organisations to deliver projects across commercial, healthcare, education, residential, life sciences, defence, industrial, advanced manufacturing, aviation and mixed-use developments.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Civil Engineer within our Buildings team, you’ll play a key role in the delivery of infrastructure design for a diverse range of building developments across the UK.

Working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, you’ll contribute to every stage of project delivery, from initial feasibility and planning through detailed design, construction and project completion. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work while collaborating with colleagues across civil, structural, MEP, environmental and transportation disciplines to deliver coordinated engineering solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering civil engineering designs for a wide variety of building developments.
  • Designing highways, access roads, levels strategies, external works and utility infrastructure.
  • Preparing surface water and foul water drainage strategies using Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) principles.
  • Producing engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and design drawings.
  • Using industry-standard software such as Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow and AutoCAD to develop innovative engineering solutions.
  • Supporting Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies where required.
  • Liaising with local authorities, statutory undertakers, approval bodies and external stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Coordinating designs with structural, MEP, geotechnical, environmental and planning teams to ensure fully integrated project solutions.
  • Applying CDM 2015 principles by identifying, managing and communicating design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Attending client meetings, design reviews and site visits while building strong relationships with clients and project partners.
  • Supporting the successful delivery of projects to programme, budget and quality expectations.
  • Contributing to mentoring and knowledge sharing across the wider Civil Engineering team.

YOUR IMPACT:

At Stantec, you’ll help shape the places where people live, learn, work and thrive.

Your designs will support the delivery of resilient, sustainable developments that positively impact communities while helping clients achieve their environmental and net zero ambitions. Whether delivering innovative drainage strategies, designing infrastructure for major healthcare facilities or supporting cutting-edge science and technology developments, your work will make a lasting difference.

You’ll be empowered to bring new ideas, embrace digital innovation and collaborate with technical experts from across our global business, helping deliver practical engineering solutions to complex challenges.

ABOUT YOU:

We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving engineering challenges, values collaboration and is passionate about delivering high-quality design solutions.

You’ll have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering civil engineering design within a consultancy environment.
  • Experience working on building developments across sectors such as commercial, residential, education, healthcare, industrial or mixed-use.
  • Knowledge of highways, drainage, external works and utility infrastructure design.
  • Experience using Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, AutoCAD or equivalent design software.
  • A good understanding of UK design standards, approval processes and relevant legislation.
  • An appreciation of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), flood risk and climate resilience principles.
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015 and the management of design risk.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to successful project delivery.
  • Working towards, or already holding, Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or another relevant professional institution.
