The Opportunity

Are you a Town Planner (chartered or working towards MRTPI) looking to build your career within a dynamic, supportive and high-performing planning team in the Birmingham and wider Midlands market?

We are seeking a Town Planner to join our Birmingham office, located in the heart of the city centre with excellent access to New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill stations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a planner looking to gain exposure to a broad range of projects, develop technical expertise, and take on increasing responsibility within a well-established consultancy environment. You’ll be joining a team that is growing, ambitious, and committed to delivering high-quality planning outcomes across the Midlands.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

You will join a collaborative and multidisciplinary planning team working across residential, mixed-use, commercial, industrial and regeneration projects.

The team is involved in a wide variety of work including planning applications, appeals, site promotion and Development Plan submissions, providing you with exposure across the full planning lifecycle.

You will work alongside experienced Senior Planners, Associates and Directors who will support your development while giving you meaningful project responsibility from day one.

The role sits within a wider integrated business, working closely with colleagues across design, transport, engineering and environmental disciplines, ensuring planning advice is practical, coordinated and deliverable.

You will be part of a culture where collaboration, early-stage thinking and client focus are central to delivery.

YOUR IMPACT:

In this role, you will:

  • Support the preparation and submission of planning applications across a range of development types and scales
  • Assist with site appraisals, planning research and feasibility assessments
  • Contribute to the preparation of planning statements and supporting documents
  • Support the promotion of sites through the Local Plan and Development Plan process
  • Assist in the preparation of appeal documentation and supporting evidence
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders and internal teams to support project delivery
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure coordinated planning advice
  • Develop your technical knowledge and contribute to successful project outcomes across the Midlands

This role will give you strong exposure across multiple sectors and project stages, helping you build a solid foundation for long-term career progression.

ABOUT YOU:

You are a Town Planner (ideally MRTPI qualified or working towards chartership) with some experience in consultancy, local authority or private sector environments.

You will bring:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • Some experience in development management and/or planning policy work
  • An understanding of the UK planning system, ideally with exposure to the Midlands region
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, enthusiastic and team-oriented approach
  • The ability to manage tasks effectively and support project delivery
  • A desire to learn, develop and progress within a supportive planning team

You are likely looking for a role that offers variety, responsibility and clear progression within a growing consultancy environment.
