The Opportunity

Are you a Chartered Town Planning Director ready to take a leading role in shaping some of the most significant development and regeneration projects across Birmingham and the wider Midlands?

We are seeking a Town Planning Director to join our Birmingham office, ideally located in the heart of the city centre with excellent connectivity to New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill stations.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who wants more than delivery but rather someone motivated by influence, growth and legacy. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of our Midlands planning presence, working alongside an established team with real momentum and ambition.

If you’re driven by complex development, meaningful client relationships and building high-performing teams, this is a role where your impact will be visible and valued.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

You will join an established and growing planning team delivering across residential, mixed-use, commercial, industrial and employment sectors, with a strong track record in planning applications, appeals and Development Plan promotion.

The Birmingham team is already well positioned in the Midlands market, with a strong pipeline and clear opportunity to expand further. This role is central to unlocking that growth.

You’ll work in a fully integrated, multidisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with colleagues across design and masterplanning, landscape architecture, transport, engineering and environmental disciplines. This joined-up approach ensures planning advice is commercially aware, design-led and deliverable from the outset.

You’ll be part of a culture that values early-stage collaboration, strategic thinking and strong client partnerships.

YOUR IMPACT:

In this senior leadership role, you will:

  • Lead and shape the growth of the Birmingham and wider Midlands planning practice
  • Act as a trusted advisor to key public and private sector clients on complex planning matters
  • Lead on major planning projects including strategic land promotion, planning applications, appeals and inquiries
  • Play a key role in Local Plan strategy, examinations and land allocation work
  • Drive business development activity, identifying and converting new opportunities in the Midlands market
  • Mentor, support and develop a growing team of planners, building capability and future leadership
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary leaders to deliver integrated, commercially robust and design-led outcomes
  • Strengthen the firm’s external profile and presence within the Midlands planning market
  • This is a role where you will not only deliver projects, but actively shape strategy, culture and growth.

ABOUT YOU:

You are a Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) operating at Director level, or an experienced Associate Director ready to step into a broader leadership role.

You will bring:

  • Strong technical expertise across development management and/or plan-making
  • A proven track record within the Birmingham and/or wider Midlands planning market
  • Experience in planning applications, appeals, inquiries and/or Local Plan examinations
  • A strong commercial mindset with confidence in client engagement and business development
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor, inspire and develop teams
  • The ability to provide clear, commercially aware advice on complex planning and development challenges
  • You are likely looking for a platform that offers greater influence, autonomy and the opportunity to help shape both a team and a regional strategy not just deliver within it.
