The Opportunity

Our Newcastle Buildings MEP team are looking for a motivated BIM technician to join the team. The ideal candidate will understand Mechanical and Electrical services design with regards to locating and routing of services within the 3D environment. Systems include (lighting, power & data, fire and security systems, Primary electrical services containment, HVAC pipework and plumbing systems). Working with services design engineers, you will create and organise standard document content and support the preparation of projects, plans, drawings, details, sections in accordance with Stantec standards, client standards, specifications and building regulations.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the development of MEP design information across a broad spectrum of project sectors from Education, Industrial to commercial projects.
  • Coordinate with Engineers and architects to ensure accurate and clash free models.
  • Develop, manage and maintain Revit models, templates and content libraries for MEP systems
  • Collaborate with project teams to create and implement BIM execution plans (BEP’s) and project standards.
  • Coordinate MEP designs, models and drawing packages with engineers/architects etc as part of complete design solutions.
  • Identify discrepancies in models, drawings and information resolving through appropriate methods and channels.
  • Collaborate with national BIM Lead to rollout corporate BIM standards and for aligning BIM delivery goals nationally.
  • Mentor and train technicians in MEP Revit and BIM best practices
  • Provide technical competency on the modelling of MEP systems such as HVAC systems, ductwork pipework and electrical systems such as lighting, power, fire and security systems, life safety, communication and containment.
  • Participate in the tendering and construction phases of projects as required to support the engineer’s role in the project.
  • Perform field reviews to support the design phase and verification of construction information during project execution.
  • Support the development and documentation of new BIM Standards, protocols and quality control procedures.
  • Stay current with emerging BIM technologies and trends to support continuous improvement in digital project delivery.

 

Capabilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of BIM processes and standards for MEP building systems
  • Relevant experience working on MEP building projects with specific experience in design and modelling/drawing development for building services systems.
  • Usable experience in AutoCAD and 2D services design drawing and advantage
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit MEP, Navisworks Manage and Autodesk Construction cloud (ACC/BIM360)
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and additional BIM related tools such as Magicad and Bluebeam is preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary BIM models and resolve technical and spatial conflicts effectively.
  • Strong problem solving, organisational skills, with ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong working knowledge of MEP design principles, construction documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is an asset.
 
Education Experience:
  •  Associated certification in the architectural/engineering/contractor industry.
  •  Must have experience working on HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical services models.
