The Opportunity

We are looking to appoint a Civil or Structural Technical Director to strengthen leadership within our Leeds office, supporting the continued growth of our Civil & Structural (C&S) capability. This is a pivotal role within a collaborative team delivering a diverse portfolio of projects across the buildings and development sectors.

 You will join a multidisciplinary environment where Civil, Structural and wider engineering teams work closely together, combining technical excellence with a pragmatic approach to delivery. With strong relationships across the region and a healthy pipeline of work, this role offers the opportunity to provide visible leadership within the office and regional structure (successful candidate will join the SLT) while contributing to the wider success of Stantec’s UK business.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Technical Director, you will provide technical and strategic leadership across a range of Civil & Structural projects, ensuring high-quality delivery while supporting the growth and development of the team. You will work closely with regional and national leaders, contributing to business planning, client engagement and the successful delivery of complex projects across multiple sectors.

You will act as a senior technical authority, guiding project teams through design and delivery challenges, while maintaining strong client relationships and identifying opportunities for future work. Alongside project involvement, you will support the development of technical capability within the team, mentoring engineers and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

YOUR IMPACT

The successful candidate will be critical in shaping the future capability and direction of our Civil & Structural team in Leeds. Through your leadership, you will influence how projects are delivered, ensuring they are technically robust, commercially sound and aligned with evolving industry and regulatory requirements.

You will support clients in navigating increasingly complex challenges, from sustainable design and environmental pressures to long-term asset performance, while helping to build a team that is capable, confident and forward-looking. Over time, your impact will be reflected not only in the successful delivery of projects, but in the strength, reputation and technical depth of the team you help to grow.

ABOUT YOU

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
  • Chartered status (CEng) with a relevant professional institution (ICE / IStructE)
  • Significant experience in Civil and/or Structural engineering within a consultancy environment
  • Strong technical background across, buildings or development projects
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing project delivery
  • Demonstrable ability to build and maintain client relationships
  • Commercial awareness and experience contributing to business development
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with a collaborative approach
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers
  • Will ideally have a strong Yorkshire market understanding with the ability to attract civil and structural engineers to join the team.
