Help shape the ground beneath our future.
At Stantec, we’re looking for a motivated Geoenvironmental Consultant to join our growing Infrastructure and Environment team in Cardiff. This is an exciting opportunity to build your career working on projects that support the redevelopment of land, the delivery of essential infrastructure and the creation of more sustainable places to live and work.
You’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team delivering contaminated land, hydrogeological and ground engineering services across the infrastructure and buildings sectors. From investigating ground conditions to helping clients understand and manage environmental risks, you’ll play an important role in turning challenging sites into opportunities for the future.
If you enjoy hands-on site work, solving technical problems and seeing the real-world impact of your work, this could be the next step in your career.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a varied, hands-on role combining site investigations with technical reporting and project delivery. Initially, your work will be predominantly site-based, giving you the opportunity to develop your practical experience and technical expertise in ground investigation and environmental monitoring.
Working alongside experienced colleagues, you’ll support the delivery of geoenvironmental and geotechnical investigations, helping ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.
You will:
-
Supervise contaminated land and geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, well installation and ground testing.
-
Undertake groundwater sampling, groundwater level monitoring and ground gas monitoring.
-
Coordinate site activities and liaise with contractors, subcontractors, clients and other project stakeholders.
-
Interpret site investigation findings and contribute to technical assessments and recommendations.
-
Prepare clear, accurate technical reports, including desk studies and interpretive reports.
-
Ensure site activities comply with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.
-
Apply relevant British Standards, Environment Agency guidance and NHBC standards to support high-quality project delivery.
-
Work collaboratively with colleagues across geoenvironmental, geotechnical and wider infrastructure disciplines.
As your experience grows, you’ll have the opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge and take on a greater variety of office-based responsibilities alongside your site work.
YOUR IMPACT
The work you do will help clients understand ground conditions, manage contamination risks and make informed decisions about the safe and sustainable development of land.
From supporting site investigations to producing technical reports that guide the next stages of a project, you’ll contribute to solutions that protect the environment, support infrastructure delivery and help unlock the potential of sites across South Wales and beyond.
You’ll also have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, strengthen your technical capabilities and build a career within a team that values collaboration, quality and continuous development.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll be a proactive and enthusiastic geoenvironmental professional who enjoys combining practical site work with technical problem-solving. You’ll be comfortable working independently when required, while recognising the importance of collaboration, clear communication and safe working practices.
You'll ideally bring:
-
A degree in a relevant discipline, such as Environmental Science, Geology, Civil Engineering or Earth Sciences. A BSc, MSc, BEng or equivalent qualification is suitable.
-
Postgraduate experience within the geoenvironmental sector.
-
Experience in contaminated land investigations, geotechnical ground investigations or working with ground investigation contractors.
-
Knowledge of relevant British Standards, Environment Agency guidance and NHBC standards.
-
Experience supervising site investigations, monitoring groundwater and ground gas, and undertaking groundwater sampling.
-
Experience preparing technical reports, including desk studies and interpretive reports.
-
The ability to coordinate site activities and communicate effectively with contractors, clients and colleagues.
